Photographer Robert F. Gabella to Unveil

Spring Collection

at the Funky Java Coffee House

             Noted Horticulturist and Photographer Robert F. Gabella will offer a limited selection of matted, signed and numbered 8x10” photographic prints (finished size 11x14”) from his collection Friday, May 04, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., at The Funky Java Coffee House, 40 S. Villa Avenue, in Villa Park.  Included in the current selection is the photo of Rosa nootkatensensis, one of two Wild Rose species native to Alaska, taken during a driving rainstorm on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. Ten each of this and three other prints will be offered.   Early attendance is encouraged due to the limited number of prints available.

Gabella’s Horticultural Photography is known for its high impact, bright tones, and ability to capture the feel of the moment, whether in the garden or in the wild.  It has been published in Growing Trends magazine along with his informative articles about commercial Horticulture.  His photographs of and features articles about the local Rock Music scene have been published in In The Mix magazine.

Mr. Gabella has an AAS in Horticulture, a BA in Business Management with a minor in English Writing, and is an Illinois Certified Nursery Professional.  A writer and a noted speaker at Garden Clubs and Community Groups, he is creator of the new Purple Coneflower (Echinacea) Twist of Fate™ .  Gabella’s awards for gardening include many local and regional awards as well as a Bronze Medal from the American Iris Society.

            His travels for business and pleasure have taken him to gardens and wild areas across the continent, where he has amassed a collection of over 15,000 slides.  His

work-in-progress of horticultural essays, photography and line art, Garden Opus®, is currently being readied for publication.

            The Funky Java Coffee House, owned by Larry, Joyce and Christine Poggi, has long been a showcase for local Artists and Musicians.  Established in 1996, the café serves a variety of coffee drinks including several house specialties, as well as soft drinks and baked goods, in a warm, casual atmosphere.  It is located in the shopping center south of Villa Park Trust and Savings Bank, at the intersection of St. Charles Road and Villa Avenue.
