Dirt1 is an introduction and platform for the rest of the work, 14 chapters in all.  It opens as a profound sensory experience in the garden stirs memories of my earliest gardening awareness, and allows a grim face-to-face confrontation with a series of early childhood traumas.  Since that time, when immediate peril seemed just around the corner, my personal relationship with the garden has transformed me, offered redemption, and given the gift of salvation.

As the chapters evolve, the disconnect between that personal relationship and the sometimes dangerous and unwieldy world of commercial Horticulture is also surveyed.  In the process, a range of triumphs among individuals and organizations who make a difference is explored.  Exclusive contributions from subject matter experts in widely diverse fields are included to add insight to some very special topics.

Garden Opus is more than just a book about gardening - it is a provocative account of an enlightening  and sometimes startling journey which will inspire a wide range of discussions  for years to come.
